KALUGA — Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, opened a factory in Russia on Wednesday as it seeks to triple its share of the country’s market over the next three years and joins rivals Ford and Renault in beginning production in one of the fastest growing car markets.

Volkswagen will be going on a huge spending spree in coming years to help reach its target of ten million vehicle sales by 2018. Already we’ve reported about the carmaker’s strategy to reduce its vehicle architectures to four main platforms, and now we have news of a $14.1 billion investment plan though until 2010.

Kaluga (Russia), Nov 28 (CTK) - Germany's Volkswagen, the owner of Czech car maker Skoda Auto,Wednesday produced the first Škoda Octavia and Volkswagen models in its new Russian plant in Kaluga.

WINDSOR, Ontario — Chrysler will build a minivan for Volkswagen in Canada to sell in the U.S. market starting next year. The new vehicle will be unveiled at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show in February and will go on sale in October as a 2009 model.

MOSCOW, Nov 29 - Russia will become Europe's biggest car market in 2009, overtaking Germany, Volkswagen's chief executive told reporters late on Wednesday during the group's official opening of its new plant in Kaluga outside of Moscow.
