VOLKSWAGEN AG has opened a new production plant in Pune, India, where the Skoda Fabia and a new version of the VW Polo will be built for the domestic market.

The factory, inaugurated on Tuesday, will initially build Skoda Auto AS's Fabia hatchbacks from May before beginning production of a hatchback version of Volkswagen Polo in 2010. With this, VW becomes the last of the world's biggest auto manufacturers to mark its foray into India through a full production facility.

Pune, Mar 31 : Owner of nine automobile brands, including Bentley and Lamborghini, German auto company Volkswagen (VW) today opened its Rupees 3,800 crore (Euro 580 million) manufacturing plant at Chakan, near Pune.

Volkswagen yesterday announced the opening of a new plant in Pune, western India. A statement said VW had now committed 580mn euros ($767mn) in India. The plant will have a maximum annual production capacity of 110,000 vehicles, all destined for the Indian market.

MBM Resources Bhd’s subsidiary F.A.Wagen Sdn Bhd will no longer have the right to market or sell Volkswagen (VW) cars in four locations in Malaysia. The agreement was for Puchong, Subang Jaya and Alor Setar.
